Hanami Invitation to Play Kits 🌸
Celebrate the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms through sensory-rich, book-inspired play
In Japan, Hanami (花見) is the time-honored tradition of gathering under cherry blossom trees to appreciate their delicate, short-lived bloom. It’s a reminder to pause, celebrate beauty, and embrace the present moment—a concept that resonates deeply in early childhood learning.
These handmade, bio-based resin learning tools bring the magic of Hanami into sensory play, storytelling, and creative exploration—perfect for classrooms, playrooms, and daycare centers.
Two Kit Sizes to Fit Every Learning Space
🌿 Small Kit – Ideal for tabletop sensory play, bookish invitations, or a cozy nature corner
🌳 Large Kit – Designed for full-classroom sensory bins, dramatic play areas, and collaborative learning centers
Each kit includes a carefully curated selection of cherry blossom-inspired learning tools, such as:
🌸 Cherry Dominoes – Build a sakura-themed castle or explore early math concepts
💡 Tiny Flower Cubes – Perfect for light table play or counting activities
🌱 Nature-Inspired Sensory Pieces – Durable, washable, and made for open-ended exploration
Bookish Play & BC Curriculum Connections
Pair your Hanami kit with beautiful picture books that support BC’s Early Learning Framework in literacy, inclusion, and cultural awareness:
📖 "Sakura’s Cherry Blossoms" by Robert Paul Weston – A lyrical tale of family, change, and the beauty of fleeting moments.
📖 "The Cherry Blossom Festival: Sakura Celebration" by Ann McClellan – A deeper look into the history and traditions of Hanami.
📖 "Pink is for Boys" by Robb Pearlman – A joyful celebration of colors and breaking gender stereotypes, tying into the soft pink hues of cherry blossoms.
These books spark conversations about diversity, nature appreciation, and the changing seasons, supporting oral language development, social-emotional learning, and play-based literacy in ECE and primary classrooms.
Sensory Setups & Open-Ended Play Ideas
🌿 Create a Sakura Sensory Bin – Use green-colored rice as grass and sprinkle in cherry blossom-inspired pieces.
🎨 Lean Into the Soft Pinks of the Season – Make rosy playdough, add delicate flower prints, and explore nature textures.
🌓 Light Table Magic – Set out tiny flower cubes and explore how light transforms their colors and shapes.
🧱 Build & Imagine – Use cherry dominoes to create a miniature Hanami festival.

None of our products are designed to be put in the mouth and so aren’t appropriate for any children who mouth toys.
There are dimensions listed on each of our products and the majority are appropriate for those ages 3+ because of their small size. There are some sensory sets under the category ‘toddler sensory sets’ that are much larger and therefore not a choking hazard.
